This will be my last contest .  This will be for all my friends and family that past away from Cancer . That is why I will raise money for the American Cancer Society.  I will compete for my lost friends , my grandparents that passed away , and for Caryl my fiance carrying our unborn child . I will be a dad in may. My trainer for this contest will be my friend Amit Patel . I started hitting it hard last week running a mile and a half and doing 125 push ups every night . Training for the contest is easy because i am a Usps letter carrier . I power walk my routes. I have trained and seen master breakers . I am like rocky , rocky didnt spar for part 4 or 6 ! i hit the wood the day of the contest . i make my palms harder by pushups . I hit the heavy bag for my fists and elbows. I hit the wood the day of because i dont like the ugly knuckles master breakers have.  Stay tuned !

Master Velez December 3 , 2006 . 

 

I did 100 push ups and 100 leg lifts today. I have been teaching moves to a few mailman carriers i work with . With  xmas around the corner we are a target . It is rare that they try to mug us but it happens .  My Great Uncle is very ill , God Bless him . I am working hard at my job but i'm also training hard . Training can be an escape from your worries , if it takes your mind off of something for ten mins or a half hour that is great . I'm fired up about the tournamnet . Last tournament was the biggest , hope we have a bigger turn out . Train hard fight easy Master Paul Corrigan said that . My dad was a big part of me being a martial artist , he is happy about my ranks . He was a freak of nature in his day .  Enjoy everyday it could be your last . Take it day by day , I try not to look far ahead , you really find out who your friends are when you are going through tough times or when training is rough . Thanks Mom , Dad , Jeff , Caryl , Pete , Paul , Jenn , Greg , Karyl , Amit , Mo, and Jr.

I'm Watching what I eat no more junk food !  My trainer Amit is making sure I dont eat junk , my core must be strong . Tips on breaking . Never break against the grain , be smart focus on the center of the board , I focus on the middle of the board , i envision a circle about a size of a dime and bam i break . Always check with your doc before any contest and make sure if you never broke wood or bricks get training .

Tonight I ran over a mile and hit the weights . Hope to see a big turn out for the contest. Sometimes I throw out the routine and do  super sets . For example , I do one big set of 100 push ups or 100 leg lifts and sometimes i throw out the routine and max out . It is good to switch it up and sometimes take a few days off to rest and make the muscles grow. For Martial arts training i would do the private lesson first with the kicks , punches , than teach  new moves . Than do boxing , kick boxing , wrestling , and jujitsu . It is good to line up your training partners and have them come in every 2 to 3 mins this is called Round robins .    Or in wrestling do king of the mountain  see  who goes the longest  try to take the guy down or throw him and the next guy comes in .

Everyone have good Xmas and new year . This is a big week for my training . Last week Amit and I hit the weights hard and heavy. Hope to come out pain free after next Sunday.  I am Breaking boards for the American Cancer Society .  It is hard training when you have a lot on your mind . Exercise takes your mind off of your troubles and that is a good thing ! If you dont think about it for 10 mins or 20 mins that is great. 
I want to give a shout out to one of my close friends son AJ . It is a good thing to have heros . His dad is his favorite hero than superman . Superman always tells the truth ! I hope my baby will always look up to me . I will have a big walk through this week . I will do my normal martial arts and hit the weights . I will make sure the palms and elbow are ready. Well thats all folks . I did my breaks today in front of my pretty fiance Caryl and her mommy brenda and my trainer / friend Amit and his girflfriend doreen , and Amit's dad Mr. Patel. I did an elbow break with 5 boards no spacers , a palm strike 4 boards no spacers , and a hammer fist strike 3 boards no spacers . This was my last board breaking contest , I will keep the tournament going as a promoter . It was a real fun time and my friends and family had fun watching me . have a great new year  and god bless. I went out the way I wanted the elbow break was my best ever that was for the Velez family , Craig family , Samila Family ,Patel Family , and my loved ones in the Sky . IN Feb ! THE DLMA GAMES !!!!
The whole month of FEb 2007 The DLMA Games !!!
Every contestant will get a 1st place fininsh and a martial art fitness award ! The dlma games is free to enter for any DLMA / AMJ / TJD Kempo / BHMA member and there schools .

by the end of FEb send in all the names of students or members that completed the Games .
you will have to perform 100 kicks , 100 punches , 100 pushups and 100 crunches ! the cause will be to promote fitness and our charity will be for the American diabetes association . http://www.diabetes.org/support-the-cause/make-a-donation.jsp the winners of the games will get a cert and there name listed on the tournement page !

The DLMA is moving forward with free contests and tournaments !

Now that the DLMA World Championships is over Im going to train for the DLMA World Games ! 150 push ups , 150 pucnhes , 150 crunches , 150 kicks . This is to promote martial arts and fitness . I just went to the doctors and he told me i have gained 15 pounds since my last visit . Since I began weight lifting , martial arts and wrestling I have gone up and done in weight . Im going to be in the best shape of my life by the end of Nov ! 2 months ! Here are some of my tips of dieting .

The Velez Diet

Rule 1 dont starve yourself , if you starve yourself you will gain it back and more when you  go back to your old ways .  Rule 2 Cut your portions don't starve yourself . If you eat out , when you get your order take half off of the plate . Take the rest home or give it to your friend or date . Rule 3 no more sweets . drink water and diet soda .  Rule 4 No snacking in between meals . Rule 5 IF you must have fast foods get one cheese burger , get a small fry and a small diet soda , not the whole dollar menu .  Rule 6 Try to know how many calories you need a day . Rule 7 Eat veggies or fruit everyday that will help clean you out . Rule 8 dont eat late at night . Rule 9 take a multi vitamin . Rule 10 exercise .  That is an easy outline that will help you . There are many free diets online . You dont have to join a club or a gym or take diet pills . Stay away from frying foods .  Try fish or chicken over burgers once in a while . Hope I was a help . Check back to see my results . I weigh 184 today . I will weigh myself again friday ! Try to buy a good scale and use the same scale everytime you weigh yourself . If you dont want to use a scale use the mirror or use your pants do they feel loose , do you need a belt now !

I stated on Sept 10th I would start my diet . Today Im 174 ILBS down 10 pounds.  I will keep going . I want to be 170 or 165 .  I will see how I feel at 170 .  Im getting ready for the DLMA World Games and my big board break . The winter is coming and I work outside so I want to stay healthy beacuse last winter was rough . I will keep warm , eat right and take my vitamins. The DLMA games is a test of fitness . 150 punches, kicks , crunches, push ups. This is all for a good cause . I will do this for the american cancer society.
